WINDOWS
7, a product of Microsoft Corporation of USA is a menu-driven Operating System
developed to be used with the IBM PCs and their compatibilities. It is
a multi-tasking Operating System (OS) (enabling several task/program to be run
concurrently) and also permits sharing of program and data. The OS provides
capability of running program under its control as well as performing a number
of management functions (creating, relieving, deleting, etc.) on files.
FEATURES OF WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM
i.
Permits 2 or more programs to be run
concurrently (Multitasking).
ii.
Permits resources sharing.
iii.
Permits an application program to import or
export data.
iv.
Commonly used with the mouse along with the keyboard.
FUNCTIONS OF WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM
Windows
7 allows a user to do the following:
i.
Run/launch a program.
ii.
Controls the printers.
iii.
Format disks.
iv.
Copy, delete, create files etc.
STARTING WINDOWS 7
The Windows Operating System is automatically activated when the computer
system is switched on. It will be necessary to wait for a few second to allow
for necessary house-keeping routines.
When a PC is turned on, the following sequence of events take place in the
system before it is ready for use:
a.
Standard hardware check, are carried out. This include
the:
Ø
Motherboard.
Ø
Processor
Ø
Memory and
Ø
Disk drives.
b.
The
message starting windows 7 will be displayed (to allow for loading of the OS).
c.
After a few seconds, the windows Desktop will be
displayed to signal that the system is ready to work.
